For most travelers, we recommend the route via Itaparica Island, which combines a crossing of the bay of Salvador (Baia de Todos os Santos), followed by a private transfer to Itacaré. This option typically provides the best balance of travel time, flexibility, and overall cost.

Transfer from Itaparica Island to Itacare

How the Transfer Works

Travelers make their own way from Salvador Airport (SSA) or downtown Salvador to one of the passenger ferry terminals, where they board a vessel to Itaparica Island. There are two options:

Nautical Terminal Mercado Modelo

From here, speedboats depart for Mar Grande.

• Departures every 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on demand.
• Crossing time of approximately 40 minutes.
• Tickets are purchased directly at the terminal.
• Google Maps: Bahia Nautical Terminal (Mercado Modelo).

São Joaquim Ferry Terminal

From here, the ferry boat departs for Bom Despacho.

• Departures approximately every hour.
• Crossing time of about 1 hour.
• Tickets are purchased directly at the terminal.
• Google Maps: São Joaquim Ferry Terminal.

In most cases, we recommend the speedboats departing from the Bahia Nautical Terminal (Mercado Modelo), as the crossing is faster and departures are generally more frequent.

Upon arrival in Mar Grande or Bom Despacho, your driver will be waiting with a sign and ready to begin your transfer to Itacaré.

Advantages of Starting Your Transfer in Itaparica

This option offers greater flexibility and, in most cases, a lower overall cost. You can choose the most convenient crossing time and take an Uber or taxi to the ferry terminal that best suits your plans, whether the Bahia Nautical Terminal (Mercado Modelo) or the São Joaquim Ferry Terminal.

Average Transfer Time: Itaparica to Itacaré

Option 2

Private Transfer from Salvador Airport to Itacare (via Itaparica)

How It Works

If you prefer private transportation for the entire journey, our partner driver can pick you up at Salvador Airport (SSA), your hotel, or another address in Salvador and take you to one of the passenger ferry terminals (Mercado Modelo or São Joaquim).

You will make the ferry crossing independently, while our driver waits for you in Mar Grande (if arriving by speedboat) or Bom Despacho (if arriving by ferry boat). From there, the second part of your private transfer to Itacaré begins.

• Salvador Airport to the speedboat or ferry terminal: approximately 40 minutes
• Crossing of All Saints Bay: approximately 40 minutes by speedboat or 1 hour by ferry boat
• Transfer between Itaparica Island and Itacaré: approximately 4.5 to 5 hours

Transfer de Salvador a Itacaré pelo Continente

Transfer Salvador to Itacare via the Mainland

(Orange Route)

In most cases, the mainland route to Itacaré is unnecessary, as it takes nearly twice as long and the transfer cost is higher due to the longer distance. However, some travelers prefer the convenience of remaining in the same vehicle for the entire journey, without changing modes of transportation, taking a ferry crossing, or handling luggage during transfers.

Your driver picks you up at Salvador Airport (SSA) or your accommodation in Salvador and takes you directly to your hotel, pousada, vacation rental, or other accommodation in Itacaré.

Transfer between Morro de Sao Paulo and Itacare

 

Marau Travel offers private transfers between Morro de Sao Paulo and Itacare via the historic city of Valença, home to the ferry terminal where the speedboats connecting Morro de São Paulo arrive and depart.

This transfer consists of two stages:

1. Travelers board one of the frequent speedboats departing from the Morro de São Paulo pier to the Valença Ferry Terminal, located along the waterfront in the historic city center.

2. Our driver will be waiting for you at the entrance to the Valença Ferry Terminal at the scheduled time, holding a sign with your name. After meeting your driver, the journey from Valença to Itacaré follows the scenic BA-001 coastal highway, passing alongside one of the largest continuous mangrove ecosystems in Brazil.

Your driver will take you directly to your hotel, pousada, vacation rental, or other accommodation in Itacaré. If you would like to make a stop along the way, simply let your driver know.
